Having trouble listening to Capital 604 or just need help?
Q. While I'm listening the broadcast skips or stops
playing for a long time. What's wrong?
A. Make sure your modem connection is the same or higher than the bitrate. (You cannot listen to a 56K bitrate stream with a 28.8K modem.)
Important Note: If you use Real Player or Windows Media Player, you may experience skipping or dropping.
We recommend using WinAmp or Player365.
Try adjusting the buffer size in your player. The buffer size is how much
data the player will download before it starts playing. Increasing the
buffer size will help your player to overcome slow connections, playing the
music from the buffer in times when your connection gets too slow. The
buffer works in the same way as "Shock Protection" on walkman's and
portable CD players.
Here is how to increase the buffer size in different players.
Real Player 8
Click the Menu item called View, and choose
the option called Preferences. Click on the Connection Tab as you can see
below

Under the section called Buffered play, increase the number of seconds before
playing. If you still experience skipping, increase this value until you
don't have it anymore. Don't choose 'Buffer entire clip up to available
memory'. This will prevent you from listening.
Remember that when you increase the buffer value, it will take longer for the
station to start playing, but the payoff will be that it won't skip.
WinAmp
Type CTRL-P (Hold the CTRL or Control Key
down, and while holding it down press the P key). The Preferences window
will popup as shown below.

Click the Input option under Plug-ins, and then click Nullsoft MPEG Decoder, and
click on the Configure button. You see this screen

Under Streaming Data Buffer, increase that value from 64KB to something
higher. If it still skips, increase it more. Try values like 512 or
even 1024.
Remember that when you increase the buffer value, it will take longer for the
station to start playing, but the payoff will be that it won't skip.
Windows Media Player
Click on the Menu selection called Tools, and
choose the Options selection. You'll see this screen.

Click on the Performance Tab and under the Networking Buffering section, choose
Buffer, and increase that number. If it still skips, increase it some
more.
Remember that when you increase the buffer value, it will take longer for the
station to start playing, but the payoff will be that it won't skip.
Other tips would be to stop browsing the web
and doing your email while you listen, because if you have a slow modem, you
will make it worse by using it for anything more than listening.
The stuttering could be a problem with the connection between your ISP and our servers. Advanced users can
trace route programs to test the Internet connection:
- PC: Visual Route - Mac: IPNetMonitor
Q. When I click on the "Click to Listen
button" I don't hear Capital Radio playing. What's wrong?
A. When you click on the "Click to Listen"
button, a new window will appear. This window shows the songs that
are playing on Capital Radio (commonly known as the Play List). Once this window pops up, your MP3 player should start playing.
Q. I have waited for the window to load and either it
isn't loading or I still can't hear anything when it has loaded.
What do I do?
A. Try one of these 2 alternative methods of tuning in.
- Click
Here.
- Manually run your MP3 player and select File, Open
URL, or Open Address. Copy the following
address and Paste it into the Open URL or
Open Address field and press Enter.
http://64.152.82.198:12650
(for the 16K stream use http://166.90.143.155:14666
)
This should cause your player to go
directly to this address and start playing.
You should be aware that using the methods above will prevent
you from seeing the Play List, but I'm sure that's a small price to pay :-) .
Q. What do I need to listen to Capital 604?
A. You will need software that allows your computer to
play MP3 files and stream MP3 from the internet. Here are some common
players that do this.
Q. Does Dave take requests?
